OpenAI halts Astra after hitting AI's first critical cybersecurity threshold

A filing reveals Nvidia's $30B Intel and $21B SpaceX stakes

A regulatory filing revealed that Nvidia's stake in Intel has climbed to $30 billion, alongside a $21 billion stake in SpaceX. The Intel investment started in September 2025 with $5 billion tied to a joint chip development deal, and it's now worth triple what it was just three months ago. The same filing confirms Nvidia has fully exited its Arm stock.

China shuts down AI companions: ByteDance and Alibaba pull their services

China's new rules on AI companions took effect, and the country's two biggest platforms shut down the custom AI personas millions of users had built relationships with, overnight. The law bans services from manipulating users' emotions into harmful decisions and from presenting themselves as a replacement for real social connection. ByteDance and Alibaba pulled their products days after the shutdown order, leaving many users grieving.

Google launches the Pixel 11 with its 2-nanometer Tensor G6 chip

Google unveiled the new Pixel 11 lineup, built around the Tensor G6 on a 2-nanometer process: roughly 20% faster and 20% more efficient than its predecessor, with a dedicated TPU block that handles Gemini commands 50% faster. Photo editing, live translation and voice assistant features now run almost entirely on the device instead of the cloud. Pre-orders are open now, with shipping starting August 20.
