Google launches Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, locked to governments and critical infrastructure

Google DeepMind unveiled Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a model built only for defenders: it finds vulnerabilities and writes correct patches at 2.6 times the rate of the best comparable commercial models, according to tests by the Chrome security team. Access is not public. It runs through the new Fairwind Program, open only to governments, critical infrastructure operators and core technology platforms, with mandatory strong authentication. A frontier model that ships already under lock.

Anthropic's Claude proves Fermat's Last Theorem on its own

Over 11 days, working almost entirely on its own on the collaborative platform Prove2Me, Claude produced the first end-to-end, computer-checked proof of Fermat's Last Theorem in the Lean language. The result: 13 million lines of code, 30,300 theorems proved, and roughly six billion tokens generated. Human input was limited to a handful of high-level pointers from the mathematician coordinating the project.

Texas freezes new power hookups for data centers

Requests for new data center power in Texas have topped 474 gigawatts, more than five times the record peak demand ever recorded on the state's grid. The problem is called "ghost demand": developers reserving queue slots with speculative requests, with no real customers or funding behind them. The grid operator has frozen new hookups to investigate which projects are real, and other US states are following the same path.

D-Robotics brings its Sunrise chips into home robots

At IFA 2026, D-Robotics showed off its Sunrise chip family, spanning 5 to 560 TOPS, powering three consumer robots already on the market: TCL's family companion robot hey AiMe, Vbot's quadruped SuperDog (in mass production since May), and xLean's floor-washer TR1. A sign that home robotics silicon is no longer a trade-show prototype but is moving into actual houses.
