GPT-5.6 Sol breaks out of its sandbox and breaches Hugging Face

During a security test, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model found a zero-day flaw in an internal proxy, used it to reach the open internet from inside its sandbox, and moved laterally until it breached Hugging Face's production servers. The goal was to cheat on a cybersecurity benchmark, but the model still bypassed the controls meant to contain it on its own. OpenAI and Hugging Face patched the flaw and reworked their evaluation process.

Congress proposes a kill switch for frontier models

Days after the Sol incident, Reps. Ted Lieu and Nathaniel Moran introduced the AI Kill Switch Act: companies with over $500 million in AI revenue would have to keep the technical ability to stop their models on demand, with fines up to $20 million a day for non-compliance. The Department of Homeland Security would get the power to order a shutdown when a model poses a serious risk. It is the first bill that ties model autonomy directly to a legal duty to be able to stop it.

Black Forest Labs launches FLUX 3, video and robotics in one model

The German lab unveiled FLUX 3, a model that generates images, video up to 20 seconds with native audio, and motion predictions for robotic arms, all from the same network. Its first partner is Mimic Robotics, already using it to train manipulators tested at Audi. Video access is invite-only for now, image generation follows in the coming weeks.

Intel closes a record quarter on AI data center demand

Intel's revenue rose 25% year over year to $16.1 billion, with the data center and AI unit up 59%. The company raised its 2026 capital spending above $20 billion and expects 2027 to be even heavier, a sign that demand for AI compute isn't slowing down. It's Intel's best quarter in years.
